After so long, I finally had a shot at Swensen's Ice Cream buffet. True to its name, There's really a buffet anddddd there are really OVER 50 Flavours.
Now is really the time to go esp from 11am - 2pm cos at the same time of the ice cream buffet, there's also the 1-for-1 scheme for its ala carte items. Still rmb that time when Boss treated cos of gd performance at my workplace. WAHHH all fasted the nite b4 and jus didnt care the price and WHACKED THE WAGYU BEEF STEAK. It's $33.90 for a portion. WOW! The priciest at Swensens.
So along with the sis & the sis's Bf, we marched there. Now, due to some construction there, u wld get lost, do try asking the Information Counter, only them cos we tried asking the shop assistants and they were pretty confused themselves and we ended up walking around and about for some gd 10 mins. Talk abt workin hard for ur food.
We got the 1-for-1 ala carte and a 1-for-1 ice cream buffet cos of a coupon and another person at 30% off, also with a coupon I got from T2 Swensen's earlier cos they were closng for renovations. So we were really happy when the bill came up to abt $18 per person. Nowww tt's wat I call a STEAL.
Basically, the ice cream buffet is separated into a few sections: Ice cream, a display of normal flavours, wacky flavours and gelato each. so total 3 displays. Then they hav the cakes section, waffles & pancake section, chocolate fondue section, the toppings section and lastly the local toppings section serving like A-Tap-Chi eh atap seed, those u see in Ice Kachang? HAHAH ya think u get the idea.
We ordered the tried-and-tested Fish & Chips & Crab Meat fried Rice for an Asian Twist.
Fish & Chips, indeed safe. Flaky fish beneath its crispy and not too oily batter plus the yummy fries. Mayb I dun hav such a high standard for fried food cos I dun really eat them but Swensens' standard will do for now. Just no Oil smell, those of u who detest fried food get it.
Crab Meat Fried Rice, surprisingly tasty. The rice grains were not crumpled tgt and u obtain tt grain by grain result plus it was nicely coated with egg bits. On top, spring onions were sprinkled which adds on to the allure of this nice and warm dish. The crab meat was atad too oily, more of a fried thing then u tasting the real crabmeat. So sometimes I always lament tt it spoils the ingredient whenever u deep fry it. Cos I hav yet to taste sth deliciously deep-fried, that deep-frying brings out the freshness of the ingredient itself.
THE FEAST! My sis & me. Dun look alike rite? 1 skinny, 1 fat. YA YA I snatched away all her food.
The sis BF enjoying his Jiam Tau Lor Tee-ee-ee
Ok the ice cream flavour were plentiful so initially when our stomachs were not filled, we got scoops of ice cream but subsequently later we played cheat and got like scraps of ice cream. HAH
So we tried our hand at creating our own little creations with wat was available. Our invention:
Putting some adornments on the otherwise mundane Double Chocolate Fudge Cake(DCF)
Ok now the Verdict for the taste test:
The DCF was not for me. It's too rich in flavour but the sis's bf likes it alot. Saying that the rich flavour of choc embedded with walnuts was a winner. I can stand rich cheesecakes but not for choc cakes.
The Peanut Butter Chocolate Tart was nth fantastic, u cant really taste the PB in it and the choc wasnt nice at all.
The Strawberry Tart and Apple Tart were all too sweet plus u dun really taste the real strawberry but Jam instead. Although u cld taste the apple, but u jus feel sth isnt rite. So nah, not for me either.
Starting from left(clockwise): The Chocolate Raisin Cake was too rich for me. Hah think sth wrong with my tastebuds cos like every choc cake is too rich.
The Cherry Michelle was weird. It wasnt sweet yet wasnt cherry-like so u cld taste more of the egg used in it then wat the name suggested.
The Orange Sugee was surprisingly nice!! It's light and fluffy and balanced right. It's neither too sweet nor too cloying thus it sits well on ur tongue and dissolves upon the closing of ur mouth lids.
The Peach Tart, along with the their tarts eg strawberry, apple weren't nice too. It's really soggy and kinda substandard.
The Pancake erm... I was shocked to see that they dun do it on the spot but use pre-frozen ones. Where, upon request, a server will pluck one out from the stack and microwave it for u. Eh the taste isnt so bad but I prefer if they cook it on the spot. Well being curious, I tried their Mashmellow and Butterscotch sauce. And the Blondie- which is really jus like biscuit cookie packed with nuts, nuts and more nuts.
The Waffles were cooked on the spot and boy they r good. Outside and crisp exterior, the insides and all soft and spongey. Super good. Plus they really go well with the ice cream, pack on any manzz!
But I dun blame them afterall, it's an ice cream buffet! So more effort will be put onto the flavours of ice cream.
Now, the ice cream flavours:
(Starting from Left, clockwise)
PB Choc: This was acceptable with a tinge of PB & Choc coming tgt well.
Salted Cornflakes: THIS IS REAL NICE. SAVORYY & CRUNCHY FEEL
Macademia Nut: Not bad, it's nutty and the nuts add a nice crunch
Choc: Normal but I've tasted better.
Choc Gelato: Normal
Peachy Mango Yoghurt Gelato: eeww I didnt like it. Think I dun appreciate mango ice cream
Pistachio Gelato: Nice with the real pistachio taste
PB & Black Sesame Gelato (on top): EEww, I dun lik black sesame but for those who like, u cld try :)
Milo: dun taate like one. better off putting some milo powder on ur tongue and eating it like tt
Cookies & Cream: Very sweet and I had like it better with the cookie bits more defined as they'll add more crunch
Frosted Choc Malt: It's yummy. Acc it's quite sweet too but I like. -gushes (double standard eh?!)
Yummy Raisin: Acc it's rum & raisin. I think it's too sweet plus the alcohol percentage is too much tt it kinda ruins the flavour. Idk if all alcohol ice cream tastes like tt tho (-Winks another trip to Udder's to verify & hone my tasting skills?)
Chempedak: Yuck
Mocha Almond Fudge: those who lke almond and coffee tgt wld like this. ok la.
Wild Berry Berry: Jus berries. a little tart but sweet at the same time.
Green Tea: Not bad, here's the taste of Matcha
Chendol: In the form of s solid? definitely worth it!
Savory flavours (I'm so sry the picture is abit blur)
Cinnamon Walnut: ok
Old Fashioned Vanilla: I've tasted better like those at Tom's Palette. Yum!
PB Caramel: ok
Sour Cream & Chives: YUCK YUCK TO THE MAX. I almost puked
Mushroom: really mushroom but YUCK
Asparaghus: YUCK
Rock Melon(hidden): Nice. The sis's bf likes this
Soursoup(hidden): tangy with soursoup. ok.
Durian (on top): pales in comparison to the gelato version
Durian Gelato: Yumms.
Supersour Lemon: SHIOK canzz damn sour tt it freezes ur tastebuds for a sec.
Other flavour(s) tasted but no pic cos I really really cldnt finish:
Savory- Seaweed & Pistachio: ok but not rec for long time eating. Jus for taste will do the trick.
Sry cos I ate it quite a long time ago, I cant really rmb. HAHA see la, so lazy to blog. Nooo...cos I've been busy eating those few days then after awhile cos there's so many posts, u get tired. Plus I promise to improve on my photography skills!
Hmm, on the whole, I would recommend u to go there jus for the experience and not for quality. They do hav real gd ice cream only a selected few :(
