HappyLemon

Hmm heard alot abt HappyLemon n even from Lifestyle so I jus had to try it.

I had the Yakult with Green Tea (3.50) with pearls (additional $0.50) which I say was pretty refreshing. The combi was not tt gross, and instead I quite liked the drink. The Frens- Astroboy tried Lemon with passionfruit, Gay tried cookies and cream with coffee and Ah Lian tried some lemon with green tea. sry! the names r really quirky tt u really hav some trouble recalling them.

Well, Hmm they say tt amongst the 4 of us, the best was cookies and cream with coffee but I felt tt the best was lemon with green tea. So u see, their drinks r quite subjective but I REALY ANNOTFATHOM MYSELF DRINKING SOME WEIRD CONCOCTION LIKE GREEN TEA WITH CHEESE N SALT! when I muster tt kind of courage, I'll sure blog abt it! :D

Orchard Cafe

Now I seized the chance when I knew there was a 2-for-2 offer at the orchard café and my sis bdae was coming so…. There we go!

Excited at the prospect of fresh lobsters, oysters, prawns and yummy sashimi plus their signature durian paste, I practically controlled my diet for the day so tt I cld feast at nite.

The oysters were good, like super BIG n fresh and the sashimi + abalone pieces were cut thickly and oh so fresh tt it slides down ur throat. Hwr, the fresh prawns n crabs were disappointing as it lacked the sweetness of wat u wld expect of these crustaceans.

The abalone porridge was yummy and paired with KONG BA aka braised pork, u’re thrown over. The toughness yet tender (I know, quite paradox rite? But it really made me feel tt way) of the kong ba made me melt as I reminisced the few times I ate kong ba previously, which were the least of the least.

They had an interesting variety but pls dive for their nonya laksa & Prawn mee soup! They were a delight and my sis, being a soup-lover was tempted to jus ask for another bowl of prawn soup w/o any condiments nor noodle. Hwr, being super shy, she didn’t.

LAKSA

PRAWN MEE SOUP

They hav more of an asian side where they serve Indian- Nasi Bryiani , Malay- Mutton Rendang, Chinese- Kway Chap & Teochew porridge cuisine. So it was nice being able to taste everything, all at once.

They even hav a salad bar where u can toss ur own salad and hav a range of condiments and salad dressings. The dessert counter is also quite attractive, spanning 2 counters with the usuals like ice cream, some local desserts like green bean soup n fruit with ice jelly, small servings of kueh kueh and cakes which I thot was thotful cos it’s a buffet so u cant finish much but I think it wld hav been even better if they cut the size even smaller by half, cos I wld like to try a variety but not quantity. The Signature Durian Paste was WHAM! Super nice, it’s as if ya eating the durian fruit itself w/o the seeds, how convenient!

the yummy desserts:

the tiny macaroon is supe cute rite? n it's pink! LOL

SIGNATURE DURIAN PASTE- the mum says it's too sweet for her plalette but it's alright for me :)

It isn’t a bad place to consider but I was a little disappointed with their range of seafood. So I’ll give it a 3 out of 5 star. Given tt it was on offer, which cost abt only $20 plus per pax, this was considered quite a steal for us :D

blogshop jelly-o

Blogshop Jellies

Ok my mum koped(stole) some jellied hearts which her colleagues bought from an online shop and THANK GOODNESS she did! HAHAH it was yummy. I know u cld buy clothes n other stuff online but not really food. Ok mayb I’m noob. Oh ya, Cheryl, the blogger of thebakerwhocooks.com did tt last time. Not sure if she still does.

But anways, these little hearts were adorable. I mean the strawberries were cut into heart shapes n embossed in the acrylic jellies which was layered underneath by a cream cheese layer and a digestive biscuit crumb. I heard tt each piece causes $0.50, hmm which is quite ex I guess, meaning to say tt there’s no branding and it’s homemade but hahh in the modern person’s context, wat’s $0.50 rite? It’s jus money u lose on the mj table! HAHA so yupp!

ERPS... nope it's acc $35 for 8pcs only so yeah... u cld buy it as a gift for sb then take the chance to try one!! HAHAHA wat a lousy trick rite? BUT who cares, tell ur fren tt u're sharing her fats! ><

Think the blog add is as follows:
http://thejellyhearts.wordpress.com

they also sell a range of other products so go ahead and see for urself. they hav another flavour- mango for their jelly hearts as well :) wah! so nice rite? I'm helpin them to advertise!

Best Olives

Did I ever mention tt this is THE PLACE to go when ya in search of some real, down-to-earth pasta plus when the times aint gd- aha referrin to too much indulgence thus causing ur pockets to kinda bleed dry. YES tt's my case here! goodness, can anybody tell me a magical way to literally grow ur money?

HAHHA it really helps when u r taught tt money is acc jus a percieved value, which in actual fact means it is jus plain worthless if not for its percieved value...

So with a hungry tummy (i didnt eat breakfast, jus a cuppa instant 3-in-1 coffee) n zoomed down to changi airport t2 with a meet up with my ex colleagues. MY MY, I so did miss their pasta!

At only $3-4 plus a plate, a generous portion is given. Thankfully they reverted back to this generous portion cos there was a period when CAG wanted to upgrade the canteens n expected the vendors to fork out $10,000 or leave. A few did leave cos of its exorbitant request but others stayed on, passing the costs over to us, we consumers by cutting the food portions by like almost HALF! colleague V was so anry tt she wanted to boycott it forever, but luckily they resumed their decent portions :) HAHHA if not, I think she'll be super sad but hahh she'll console herself by saying "It's full of CARBO, luckily I'm not eating tt!"

So my fav choice- Aglio Olio with seafood for jus $3.90 (staff price) plus u can alw request the change of pasta choice, they wont grumble. I like it bcos they cook each portion singly thus u do hav to wait for a little while but not tt long cos they prepare it slightly b4 such tt when they cook it for the final time,it's jus the right texture and taste.

So wat r u waiting for the next time ya waiting to catch a plane? Forget abt those DFS till u fill ur tummy n... RMB it's at T2! u hav to go to the carpark's lift n press "3M" to get to the pasta paradise - BEST OLIVES

Gathering

DANG IT! I jus went for a gathering with LOADS OF GOOD FOOD n I FORGOT TO TAKE PHOTOS?! LIKE HOW CAN?!

plus it was 2 hip a-ju-mas cooking! I was the assistant chef! HAHAH wa really feel like taking up cooking from them but I'm afraid I cant commit cos sch's starting tmr n I'm not really sure of the pace so wanna takethngs slow here.

But seriousy there was like Braised Duck(I had a dumstick! they sure dote on me :D), Curry chicken, Deep-fried you tiao sticks, Fried Bittergourd with egg, Stir-fried cucumber slices with carrot, Stir-fried mock chicken in black sauce with ginger, Sour veg with Duck Soup, BBQ Prawns, BBQ Squid, BBQ Fish, Stir-fried Nai Bai (one of my fav veg!). Then there was walnut paste for dessert andddddd.... I jus insisted tt we open a table of MJ! LOL. It all ended on a lovely note and kinda was celebrating my last day of freedom bcos sch starts tmr! AHHHH anxious n nervous!

HAH, hope even there werent pictures, the mere thinking of such dishes will make u salivate a little :P

See, bcos I was soo enthu I even got a super early invitation for MJ during CNY next yr! WOW :D

Rocher Beancurd

Wah this is damn cheat. I get like only half the bowl when I’m paying full price?! WAT’S THIS?!

BOYCOTT Rocher Rd Beancurd, so little can?!

AHHHHHH! I feel so unjustified! $1.20 per serving

I hate to admit this, their beancurd is really of quality. It is so smooth & soft tt it slides down ur throat in an instant. Haish, if it werent given tt the other top-notc brands (a least wat Ithink)like Selegie Beancurd & Sogo Beancurd (at Old Airport HC) are so far, I wont be compelled to buy from here.

cockroach

I'm so sry to say this BUT I'm so proud of myself of... ... killing a ADULT-SIZED cockroach using... my sister's slipper!

LOL.

HEY, I didnt dare to kill it previously except by spraying alot of pesticide on it but now I'm more env conscious ok!

ok ok this is supposed to be a food blog not a vomit blog. HAHAH

Extravagance

Aye so I did a little splurging ysd, afterall it's the Nation's bdae (Kino has 20% off till 8 Aug which is today! GRAB!)and I got myself a little present to celebrate. The fren, a bookworm, convince me to get the whole set, or so she says: "buying books ain't called splurging" :D so here I went and bought this whole classic set of Paulo Coelho and I saved another 20% on top of the $5 each as compared if I got them separately. WOW!

Thanks Singapore, ur bdae has been super practical!

Then Miraculously, another fren mentioned to me a book on a Muslim survivor story, which I hav been dying to find. I went in Kino not hoping much and abt 45 mins later I emerged victorious, of course after some real treasure hunt and thanks to the fren's help, we went in not knowing the title of the book but still managed to find it. GREAT PAIRWORK obviously with the brains of my fren :D

The book's called "Perilous Journey", it is a fairytale gone wrong, which tells how a Caucasian woman married the man of her dreams, a Malaysian Prince and beared 2 children for him only to find him having relations with Muslim extremists and their marriage crumbles. He confiscates his childdren's passports and forces her to return to the States or rixk having her children and herself killed. Thus begins a court battle between the couple and she taking on this perilous journey, on a secret escape to scale mountains and run towards freedom with her 2 kids.

I'm not sure if u cld still lay ur hands on it cos it seems I got the last copy from Kino, they wld hav to order it if ya want. But no harm trying!

Pontini

Pontini at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel

Soooo I finally was able to strive off one of the places I want to go under My Cravings.

When I first entered, the setting was soothing. It’s tt kind of dining experience where u go in and immediately know tt this kind of place is the atas kind. Lest u dk, Atas means high class. So sudd u behave very high classily. Haha I was thinking: Oii, better look as if this is all normal to u. If not appear super noob how?

So the frens and I calmly strolled in, or rather I, cos the other 2 r like seasoned peeps, with the waitress ushering us in, everybody took turns to greet us. Heng ah! My Sec sch taught us well, went thru some fine dining etiquette. So even if I didn’t fare well, I wld still manage a pass rite?

We ordered a cocktails since there was a 1-for-1 promotion ($22 for 2), I had a Cuban Mojito whilst the fren had a Cosmopolitan .

Cosmopolitan

Cuban Mojito

Next I ordered a 3-course set which included a soup or salad, I took the former (Mushroom Soup), a main of either steak or arriabata (since I cant take beef, I got the pasta) and Panna Cotta for dessert, all for $42++. It supposedly included a tea or coffee BUT THEY DIDN’T SERVE ME TT! Wow so much for 5 star. Ok mayb they forgot, I shld be magnanimous and forgive butttt… my tea. Hwr I was quite disappointed when they rejected my request to change the dessert from Panna Cotta to Tiramisu, cos according to the fren, their Tiramisu is DA BOMB. But we were thinking tt since they were a recognised restaurant plus they hav many great reviews, I’m sure they cld make some arrangements but they didn’t… -sobs. Maybe I’m jus a nobody tt’s y. AHAH mayb if some big shot food connoisseur came, things wld be different. HAISH, my motivation to become one in future!

The frens each had a pasta and they ordered an extra Tiramisu just to statisfy our tongues for a good dessert. Girls jus gotta hav our dessert! Plus, they hav superb oven roasted pizzas so we jus had to order one- sry I forgot the name jus rmbed tt it had mozzarella cheese+bacon bits+spicy minced pork+tomato base. ($25 for abt 13 or 15-inch pizza) The only super worth for money there. Do we sound like we’re damn pigs? I really think I’m one. Dun worry, the other 2 r like stick thin. So pressurizing rite?

So we had some freshly baked bread for appetisers and boy, they really make u full. But the thing is, no doubt I know they make u full, I still will eat them cos I HAV A FETISH FOR BREAD! Ahhh…. They’re really nice esp dipped in olive oil. Think many will shrivel at this comment, like drink olive oil?! CRAZY! Like drinking oil which means FATSS! Ahhah I was like one of u previously but I really believe in the benefits of olive oil, they’re really gd at clearing ur arteries. My uncle is testament to tt. He did it like super hardcore- drink it daily with some orange juice for flavour, and miraculously, his heart scan cleared the next time he went for his check up.

My yummy mushroom soup, I was acc quite unimpressed cos I prefer to hav chunks of mushroom in my soup for tt whole nice texture BUT I was thankful it wast like tt, cos if it were, I wld hav been too full toontinue my meal.

Pizza was super yummy, or mayb it was bcos we were H-U-N-G-A-R-Y?! lol. Paper-thin crust with not too much cheese on top n bits of bacon which was balanced well. Nwonder ppl gave good reviews here. I was satisfied.

By the time we were halfway done with the pizza, I was alr full. The pasta hasn’t even arrived yet. OH NO. Luckily portions are small for fine dining so I didn’t waste much food.

The Pastas:

Spaghetti Arriabata

Penne in Beef Bolognise

Rotini wth smoked salmon

Panna Cotta was not bad, I really loved their dried and paper thin strawberry slices which adorned the dessert plus the jam and sponge-infused cake. They complimented the panna cotta nicely.

Look at the paper-thin Dried strawberry!

Tiramisu was indeed DA BOMB. U hav to keep SHOUTING n SHOUTING when u jus try the coffe embedded inside. Cos I’m a coffee person, this shouts out to me! When u try this, all the tiramisu tt u’ve tried becomes DUST. Like super low standards. OH NO… now tt my palate has experienced the exquisite, it cannot stand for lower standards alr. wat kind of Tiramisu hav I been eating in the past?
Sry but tt's the prob with fine dining, u get those super dark photos but I cant help it. They've got to do up the ambience.

Plus, I jus heard from my fren tt the restaurant's German Chef recently left and they are waiting for the arrival of an Italian Chef so meanwhile the chef tt acc whipped us our yummy food was a Singaporean. WOW I'm so proud tt a Singporean can whip up such a standard!

We paid arnd $120 for 3 ppl but it was co we had the ala care mbrship card, so be prepared to spend abt $50-$60 per person if ya wanna come here. But it's worth it, with the ambience n food plus service isnt tt bad. But i ya wan a value for money, I still very vehemently advocate Tao's Restaurant! THEY R SIMPLY... THE BEST IN TOWN (for heapos like me but still wa good food, great service & not tt bad ambience)

Tao's Restaurant

The melody played harmoniously in the background as the grp of us laughed our way in.

“eh, sure it’s a 6-course meal for tt price? I bet I could finish all cld I’m famished!” the fren quipped.

Frankie, the waiter attended to us, as the fren quickly proclaimed “Come, I teach yall how to order” As she explained, she gave us pockets of information from her previous experience here. So we each had a little difficulty deciding on wat we wanted to eat each, or a little was an understatement, cos there were loads of variety under each course. Indeed, it was a 6 course meal- Starters, Appetiser, Soup, Main course, Tea, Dessert.

I asked Frankie “Wat’s Jap Fish Consume? Is it nice?”

“It is basically a clear Jap broth anddd… everything’s nice here.” He patiently explains.

“Plus it comes in a teapot.”

“Ok, I’ll get tt!”

You see, everything here is like a state of art and the food are so beautifully created tt no wonder ppl hold their ROM here plus all the photos on its signature stone signage advertise its popularity with celebrities, despite it being located at POMO, a rather out-of-the-way location off Hotel Rendezvous.

So I had:

Appetiser:
Gratin with Bacon bits and mozzarella cheese
(all had the same cos it was a compulsory item)

Gratin with Bacon bits and mozzarella cheese

Soup:
Jap Fish Consume
(frens had: pumpkin soup, Cream of mushroom soup)

Shell-fish salad
(frens had: prawn roll, fruit salad n chicken salad)
[oops, I forgot their exact names but hahah still the same la! chicken will alw be chicken rite? It wldn't sudd turn into beef]

Shell-fish salad (not tt bad, the shel-fish didnt had that usual fishy taste plus it was a refreshing take on the seafood)

prawn roll (eh my fren siad it was not bad but didnt get toshare cos if not she'll eat nth)

fruit salad (but acc with some crab mix on top, it was delish!)

chicken salad (found it a little normal-ish like it didnt get my thumbs up)

Main Course:
Dory Fillet with cheese
(frens had: steak, lamb chops with mint)

Lamb chops with mint

ALLLLL for the price of SGD 23.30 including service charge and GST!!! –tink tink tink! Think ur eyes bluffing u rite? NAH! Serious it’s really worth it and it makes ur dining experience here super nice and cosy. U dun get the “jus cos it’s posh, u r given fake-smiles-and-all attitude” U really feel tt they r genuinely really happy to serve u.

U mus be thinking “eh, how come I got to try 2 teas?” u see, they are really generous. Everytime u finish 1 course, they r more than happy to ask if u wan another serving. And they dun bluff!! They really give u if ya game for another. BUT pls dun let the greedy monster come out of u. cos 6 course is really NO laughing matter.

HOWEVER, the 5 gals still decided to take up the challenge and happily requested for another 2 more mushroom soup (seriously damn freaking gd- the strong n yummy mushroom all blended and added with a drop of cream) plus 2 more pots of iced tea. HAHA which we finshed with fervour.

Skeptical of the good deal, we cheekily asked Frankie: “Frankie, really it’s free?”

“Who say one? There’s nth free in this world! U pay leh!”

“HUHhhhhhh… nvm then pay lor”

Then the bill came and nth was charged extra despite us eating extra.

U see how nice some restaurants can get and I’m really amused at their service. SO NICE!!! So pls give them ur support and frequent this place! 10 stars!! Esp for Frankie and crew.

Andddd pls in order not to be disappointed, pls doo doo doo make an appointment!
